6 Tips to Get Your AC Ready For Summer that Will Save You Time

Summer is just around the corner!

But there’s no need to worry. In this blog we’ll tell you how to prepare your AC unit for the hot days and stay frosty when summer arrives so you can have your AC Ready for Summer.

Clean or Replace Your Filters

Keeping the air filters clean may sound like a simple thing to do, but it’s the most important, cost effective way to take care of your AC unit.

Filters collect particulate matter such as dust, pollen, bacteria and mildew.

Without maintenance, filters will require more energy to run, forcing the system to work harder and increasing electricity bills, compromising the indoor air quality and reducing your AC unit’s lifespan.

It’s a good idea to check your filters on at least a monthly basis. We recommend waiting no longer than 60 days to clean them and ensure your air conditioning system runs properly and stays energy efficient.

Check the insulation

It’s a good practice to inspect the insulation on your AC unit.

Coolant lines move the refrigerant between the evaporator on the air handler to the condenser. They should be insulated with foam to prevent the loss of thermal energy and to avoid condensation.

Over time, insulation on exterior coolant lines can degrade from weathering, UV rays or an imperfect installation. If the insulation on the lines is missing, peeled, cracked or damaged in some other way, the integrity of the whole system is compromised.

The unit will use much more energy and so the system must work harder to keep an adequately cool indoor temperature. In such cases, the insulation will need to be replaced by a professional. Get a skilled HVAC service technician today to help you.

Clean the Condenser unit

The condenser unit (or AC condenser) is responsible for performing the condensation process, as the name implies.

Since the condenser unit is located outside it’s exposed to elements like dirt, debris and the weather. Over time, dirt will build up on the condenser coils.

While this is normal, if left unattended it can cause serious performance and efficiency issues, waste energy and limit airflow.

We recommend using a soft brush to clean the coils.

One of our service professionals at Jamison Heating & Cooling Services can help you make sure the cleaning is done in an effective and safe way. And also spot and fix potential problems with your unit. Feel free to give us a call with any questions or concerns.

Find your Ideal Indoor Temperature for Comfort

Keeping your thermostat at 78 degrees Fahrenheit is recommended by the U.S. Department of Energy when you’re at home, but it may be too warm for some.

You can start from 78 and slowly adjust your thermostat one degree at a time until you feel comfortable.

If you’re thinking of getting a programmable thermostat, it’d be convenient to schedule the installation before the summer hot days arrive. We can schedule your appointment right away.

Get your house ready

Apart from taking care of your AC system, you can also do some changes in your house to keep you and your family comfortable during the summer.

Closing the blinds during the day will help to avoid sunlight heating up your home. Removing rugs can also contribute to keeping the temperature down.

These simple steps will help your air conditioner to cool your home.

Schedule Professional AC Maintenance

Performing preventive maintenance on your air conditioner system ensures that it operates effectively and efficiently over its many years of service and prevents costly repairs.

Doing proper checking and keeping all parts of your AC unit in good operating condition isn’t a cakewalk. It’s better to allow an experienced AC technician to do the work for you.
